World renowned keynote speaker, best-selling author, world traveler (and recently engaged in Bali!) Sahara Rose wasn’t always a glowing picture of health and success.

 

In fact, she went through a really tough time – she didn’t have periods, lost her hair, suffered from bloating and constipation. No one could find the cause or cure the problem. Until one day she read about the Vata Dosha – it was like reading her autobiography. Following Ayurvedic practices to bring her dosha back to balance, Sahara regained her health.

 

But it was hard – Ayurveda processes are old school, and many don’t work for today’s busy lifestyles. So Sahara redesigned these ancient practices to fit the modern world.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is over 5,000 years old; it’s the world’s oldest heath system. It means “the knowledge of life.” Ayurveda involves your entire life in order to heal you: nutrition, digestion, self-care, movement, morning rituals, your environment, your relationships, and your purpose.  

 

What Dosha Are YOU?

Dosha means energy. In Ayurveda, we’re all made up of energies from the elements space, air, fire, water and earth. The three doshas are: Vata (air and space), Pita (fire and water) and Kapha (earth and water). See which dosha you are below:

 

Vata

Mind When Balanced: creative, artistic, go with the flow, visionary

Mind When Unbalanced: difficulty coming down to earth, anxiety, everything up in the air, not liking a set schedule

Body When Balanced: lean, flexible

Body When Unbalanced: cold skin, slow digestion, bloating, cracking joints, unbalanced appetite, dry skin

 

Pita

Mind When Balanced: feisty, high energy, driven, business-minded, regimented, likes routine, motivated

Mind When Unbalanced: angry, aggressive

Body When Balanced: strong and athletic

Body When Unbalanced: high risk of inflammation, heart burn, acne, rashes

 

Kapha

Mind When Balanced: calm, peaceful, very giving

Mind When Unbalanced: gives too much, unable to set boundaries, people pleaser

Body When Balanced: solid, endurance

Body When Unbalanced: lethargic and prone to increased mucous.  

 

We are all a combination of all three doshas, in varying amounts, though they change depending on your stage in life.

How to Rebalance Your Dosha:

Vata = Warm, grounding foods – think roots! Stay away from excessively cold foods.

Pita = Cooling, alkalizing foods – more leafy greens, bitter veg, coconut. Avoid spicy foods.

Kapha = Stimulating foods – warming spices to rev up metabolism.

 

In her latest book Eat Feel Fresh, Sahara makes it easy to incorporate this ancient healing practice into your life with over 100(!) Ayurvedic plant-based recipes. You’re only 10% human. Yes, really.

 

Just over a decade ago, doctors believed there were around 200 species of bacteria living on and in the human body. What can you do to heal your gut?

  • Get proper sleep, exercise and water each day.

Could mold be affecting your health? Mold is a tricky thing. It’s affected people since the dawn of time – yet conventional medicine rarely addresses it.

 

But make no mistake: it is a serious issue. Mold produces mycotoxins that can drive up estrogen levels, overburden the body with toxicity and elevate inflammation – so if you’re sensitive to mold (25% of people have the gene that make them sensitive) other symptoms will appear, like frequent illness, more allergies, exhaustion and hormonal issues.

 

Jenn Malecha had a pretty healthy up-bringing – garden, vegetables, an active lifestyle. But when she got to college, the long hours and stress caused by studying and working crazy hours caused her health to decline. Then, at just 25 (and having never been a sun-worshipper), Jenn was diagnosed with skin cancer…

 

She knew it had to be caused by her environment and lifestyle. Functional tests revealed that she had high oxidative stress, a clogged-up liver, and adrenal dysfunction. So she tackled all those things, and felt like herself again…until five years later.  She began gaining weight, her periods were all over the place, she had candida overgrowth and inflamed breasts. She went to experts, who were unable to tell her what was going on.

 

One day later on she opened the cupboard near her work desk, and guess what? Black mold everywhere. The Toxic mold had been what devastated her health. Having understood what was causing these issues, she began rebalancing her health. She became the boss of her health instead of relying on doctors. She now empowers others to have that same connection with their body.

 

 

Here are some of the strategies she used to free her home and her body from mold:

 

Screen for Mold at Home:

  • Visual contrast screening – You can take the test for just $15
  • Even if you pass this test, take an at home microscopy mold test by Citrisafe. This is a small Petri dish that collects mold spores. Once sent to the lab, researchers will analyze the type of mold present in your home.
  • The other test is called an ERMI test and is available from Mycometrics . This is a cloth with which you dust surfaces around your house. The cloth is then analyzed for mold – this test can be good to do because, unlike the microscopy test, it doesn’t depend on the mold spores being alive.

 

Screen for Mold Toxicity:

  • Are you electrically charged all the time?
  • Are you urinating more frequently?
  • Nasal swab – order through a naturopathic doctor or functional practitioner.

 

Getting Rid of Mold:

  • Hire professionals to remove the mold (really important!)
  • Clean air ducts.
  • Buy anti-mold solution Bio-Balance. This is a natural toxin-free solution to remove mold from your home.
  • Get rid of mold on your carpet and your pets – products available at www.citrisafe.com.
  • After 30 days, retest your home for mold.
  • Get some functional tests done – if you’re sensitive to mold, it will trigger a chronic inflammatory response. 

 

Detox Your Body and Feed Yourself Right:

  • Biotoxins can make the body hyperreactive to wheat. So avoiding gluten is essential.
  • Eat more natural detoxifying foods like beets, dandelion tea, grapefruit, lemon.
  • Keep an anti-inflammatory diet – remove grains, dairy, soy, sugar, and processed foods from your diet.
  • Run a food sensitivity test to find out which foods to stay away from.
  • Check your personal care products – do they contain allergens like oats or almonds?
  • Start a food journal – this will help you identify what triggers your symptoms.
  • Listen to your body – tune in and see what the body is telling you rather than just trying to follow protocols.
  • Think yourself healthy – mindset and health are absolutely linked.
  • Meditate, feed your mind positive thoughts, give yourself enough sleep (leave your cell phone out of the bedroom).

Twenty years ago, she was a traditional therapist – in other words, she was totally focused on the internal side of things. But life happened; she got a divorce.   • Be aware of your posture and body language – uncross your arms, stand tall, smile.

Imagine being 26 years old and being told you have stage 3 colon cancer. Just before Christmas.

 

That’s what happened to Chris Wark. What began as intermittent abdominal pain was actually a tumor the size of a golf ball. He was rushed into surgery, but woke up to the news that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes.

 

What option did doctors give him? Just chemotherapy – 9 to 12 months.

 

But poisoning himself back to health didn’t make sense to Chris. He wanted to build his body back up, not tear it down. He began researching alternatives. The books he read opened his eyes to the healing power of nutrition and how our diet impacts our health. Suddenly he realized that he’d created his cancer; so he could fix it. He immediately bought a juicer and went from a standard American diet to 100% vegan and 100% raw.

 

It wasn’t as easy to make that decision as it sounds. His oncologist told him he was insane to refuse chemo, that fruits and vegetables would “fight” the treatment, and that chemo was his only hope. He was even told he had a 50% chance of survival past the next 5 years if he went the path of nutrition instead of chemo.

 

Chris was crushed, and frightened.

 

Unfortunately, this is something that happens to almost all cancer patients. They are manipulated into believing that chemotherapy and cancer drugs are the only solutions. They’re told that diets make no difference. When Chris woke up from the surgery to remove his tumor, his first hospital meal was a sloppy joe – despite the fact red meat is classified as a “probable carcinogen” by the World Health Organization.

 

 

Patients are told their cancer is either bad luck or bad genes. This turns patients into victims of circumstance, whose only hope is to show up for “standard” treatment. But we know that cancer is multifactorial.

 

Only 5% of cancers are genetic – 95% are caused by diet, lifestyle and environment.

 

Cancer is not something that just happens, and it isn’t something we are powerless against. We have cancer cells in our bodies all the time, but our immune system is designed to fight and kill these cells. The difference between someone with cancer and someone without is their internal environment. 

 

So how do we make our bodies a place cancer can’t survive?

 

Chris’s tips to prevent and heal cancer:

  • Make plans for the future – make plans to LIVE
  • Exercise – move your body every day
  • Laugh and sing – laughter and singing release endorphins and improve your immune system
  • Eat LOTS of fruits and vegetables – the recommended amount is 10 servings (5 cups) every day
  • Eat cancer-fighting foods – the most potent ones are vegetables from the allium (onions, leeks, garlic) and cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage) family.
  • Remove toxicity from your life – cleaning products, beauty products (even toxic people).
  • Love yourself and people around you.

Black Hole of Fitness Doom

When we embark on a new program, whether it’s a fitness program or a new diet, we all go through the same cycle:

  • Start out feeling pumped!
  • See results, stay fired up!
  • “Life Happens”, not ready, crash and burn…
  • Give up altogether.
  • Start another program and think it will be different this time.

And on we go, losing weight, gaining it back, and each time feeling less motivated and more burned out. To break out of that cycle, it’s vital to figure out your transformational danger zones and find strategies to deal with them. Once you do that, you will get dramatically better results from your fitness and nutrition program.

 

Adam’s Amazing Results Formula:

If you apply these four principles to any health goals, you’re going to succeed.

  1. Get committed to ONE nutrition plan. Be consistent for 28 days.
  2. Get committed to a 28-day fitness plan – plan your workouts in advance and stick to them.
  3. Strategic thinking – understand your danger zones and the things that usually derail you, and devise a plan to avoid falling into the Black Hole of Fitness Doom.
  4. Do the first three consistently over time. Consistency is key.

  • This isn’t the time to focus on losing weight – it’s more about maintaining, while being accountable to a plan.

Can you reverse diabetes?

 

Conventional science says no…but our favorite plant-based doctor says YES! And it’s all backed by science.

 

Dr. Neal Barnard grew up on a ranch in North Dakota (cattle country). But it was only while working as an autopsy assistant that he truly made the connection between meat and a dead animal. Thus the seed was planted. As time went on, he began to think about veganism from the standpoint of both health and animal welfare.

 

At the core of Dr. Barnard’s beliefs is that compassion should be the foundation of medicine – this means all medical research should be ethical. What is diabetes?

Diabetes happens when your body’s cells are no longer able to absorb sugar and use it for energy. This happens if you eat too many fatty foods. Fat gets into the cells and stops them working property. The solution? Well, it isn’t the standard diabetes diet (low-calorie, low-carb). The best diet for reversing diabetes is a vegan diet, with minimum oils and an abundance of low-glycemic foods.

 

Why not just avoid carbs?

Many people think that to control your blood sugar you simply need to avoid carbs. But the problem with that theory is that around half of what we eat contains carbs – including a lot of good stuff, like sweet potatoes, beans and whole grains. Sure, your blood sugar levels will drop and you will lose weight on a low-carb diet… because you’re semi-starving. It is not sustainable long-term. Then add extra eggs and meat, and the result is more cholesterol and a higher risk of early death.

 

Keto may be on trend, but it won’t do your health much good.

How Do Brain Flips Work?

We have two aspects to our brain.

  1. The Thinking Brain – We use it to fix problems and make our lives better. The thinking brain knows that certain foods are an issue and it wants to get rid of the craving. This is the part of the brain most of us will try to use to lose weight, and it never works.
  2. The Sensory Brain – This one’s a little different. It just functions through your senses – hearing, sight, smell, touch, taste – but it doesn’t have a concept of what it’s seeing, tasting, touching, smelling, etc. The sensory brain is a deep-set mechanism, keeping you safe by creating familiar associations.

 

Example Of The Two Brains In Action: Let’s say as a child you fell and scraped your knee. Your mom bandaged it up, and gave you an ice-cream. Your thinking brain is aware the bandaging is what’s helping, but your sensory brain just links the taste of ice-cream to the physical sensation of feeling better – it creates a program that says ice-cream equals feeling good. The result? A craving for ice-cream that lasts into adulthood.

 

The story changes, the food changes, but it’s pretty much the same for everyone and all cravings. Your thinking brain might know that this is happening, but that won’t solve the problem. Unless you can reprogram your sensory brain too, you will keep having those cravings.

 

You need a brain-flip. But to create this brain-flip, you need a pain tool.

 

Pain Tool:

David gets his clients to make an audio that goes deep into what their life will look like if they don’t solve this problem, which they listen to while eating the ice-cream (to stick with our example) they crave. This pain tool plants a seed in the sensory brain that says ice-cream is not enjoyable after all. It’s a small seed, but it begins to decrease the cravings. Within a few days, this new programming takes over.

 

Your brain no longer associates the ice-cream with comfort…it associates it with pain. The result? You don’t crave that food any more. You are free.

 

And that’s just Phase 1.
