12/14/2015

Today’s guest is Alison Crowley. She’s the Owner of The Yoga Prescription and her business is special because her specialty is teaching Yoga for those with cancer or other long term illnesses. She focuses on restorative yoga and healing. She calls what she does “gentle yoga” and it is a very specific practice of yoga poses, breathing and meditation in a specific order to promote healing and restoration. This episode is packed with information about yoga and how it can be used to enhance your quality of life. Alison shares her wealth of knowledge with us!

About The Yoga Prescription:

The Yoga PrescriptionTM uses yoga therapy to meet the needs of specific health concerns. Yoga therapy is the practice of gentle yoga poses, breathing, meditation, and visualization techniques used in a particular order to improve overall health, while working with physical limitations. From relieving chronic back pain to serving as part of a support system for those in cancer treatment, we create specialized prescriptions for individual and group needs.

With your doctor’s approval, yoga therapy is practiced in conjunction with your current medical care and does not replace it. Yoga therapy re-educates the body to move safely and more comfortably, and is an excellent maintenance program for supporting better emotional and physical health.

Above all yoga therapy helps to combat stress, which is at the root of many chronic health problems. By supporting the parasympathetic nervous system, our yoga therapy prescriptions help to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, boost the immune system, and provide a sense of calm and relaxation.
