Jane just directed JaneUnChained’s first documentary: Countdown to Year Zero, available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, which lays out animal agriculture’s leading role in climate change and how we must transition to a plant-based culture by 2026 or face ecological apocalypse. It won Best Documentary Feature at the Studio City Film Festival and Jane won for Best Director, Documentary Feature at the Culver City Film Festival.


Jane has won four Genesis Awards/commendations from the Humane Society of the United States for her reporting on animal issues. VegNews named Velez-Mitchell Media Maven of the Year in 2010. In 2013 Mercy for Animals awarded her their Compassionate Leadership Award. In 2014, she was honored for fighting animal abuse by the Animal Legal Defense Fund. In 2015, she received PETA’s Nanci Alexander Award.


For six years she hosted her own show on HLN/CNN Headline News, where she ran a weekly segment on animal issues. Previously, she was a news anchor at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles and WCBS-TV in New York.


Her first documentary, Anita Velez: Dancing Through Life, won a Gracie Allen Award in 2001. Jane is the author of four books, including two New York Times bestsellers. She lives in Los Angeles with her four rescues: three dogs and a cat.
