10/27/2015

On today’s episode of The Food Heals Podcast, Allison Melody sits down with reality TV producer, Jessica Funk Sirikulbut & cancer survivor, Jill Tomback to do a movie review of the latest cut of the film, Cowspiracy.

Executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Cowspiracy follows filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

To talk about the film we have breast cancer survivor Jill Tomback, who you know from previous episodes of The Food Heals Podcast where she tells her story of going through breast cancer- everything she did, what worked and what didn’t work. Jill is a second grade teacher with a Masters degree in Educational Leader ship who loves pilates, ASU football and her dog, Rio.

And she is 5 and a half years cancer free, and promotes clean eating, juicing daily and an active lifestyle for cancer prevention.

We also have reality television producer and new mom, Jessica Funk Sirikulbut. Jessica has extensive knowledge behind-the-scenes of your favorite commercials and reality TV shows including Dancing with the Stars, Supernanny, Top Gear & more and has since developed several shows for international sales. She is an optimistic idea maker who loves to help other people marry their passions with their “saved-by-grace” story. Originally from Colorado, Jessica lives for skiing and campfire storytelling.

And, Jessica wants to create a healthy, holistic, organic environment & world for her 1 year old daughter, Emme to grow up in.

About The Film:

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged.

As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist.

As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, and offers a path to global sustainability for a growing population.
