Another podcast with Allison’s favorite guest co-host Eco Vegan Gal! Today we interview Megan Brophy, who’s gone from burger slinger to health coach via one hell of a healing journey! We’ve had a lot of amazing stories on the show, but Megan’s experience is nothing short of incredible.

Megan never felt unhealthy; she was an ideal weight, felt full of energy—despite living on burgers and junk food. But a chance meeting with John Salley four years ago changed all that. After John gave her “the talk”, and watching a documentary on John’s website, Megan decided to go vegan and completely change her lifestyle. But after a lifetime of toxic foods, Megan’s body was FULL of parasites. Her skin suffered the most—she had the worst acne, even had green puss coming out of her blemishes! After many ups and downs (like sitting in a bowl of milk!), she finally figured out what was wrong. Within a month of doing a parasite cleanse, her skin cleared up. But it’s been a long journey, and Megan is still dealing with the toxic load from her old diet. Megan takes this in her stride: it’s a process, and she’s WINNING!

Megan’s healing journey has made her determined to help others transition to a healthier lifestyle. She’s in the process of setting up a website, but you can contact her at L.A.Healthness@gmail.com, and follow her journey to a parasite-free body on Instagram @meganveganbrophy.

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • Why we should ALL do a parasite cleanse.
  • How to tease parasites out of your body.
  • Why, how often and when to have a colonic.
  • How parasites create cravings.
  • How to get your kids to WANT vegetables (even those green ones!).
  • How to eat vegan even when you’re at a steak-house.
  • The simplest thing you can do right now to lose weight (and it’s ridiculously easy).
  • The amazing benefits of intermittent fasting.
  • Master cleanse vs Green juice cleanse?
  • Allison’s cleanse routine – super fat burning, healing and detoxifying!
  • Megan’s secret smoothie tip.
  • Megan’s favorite vegan products and restaurants!

Allison and her favorite guest co-host Eco Vegan Gal Whitney Lauritsen interview Joy Coelho and Jay Denman. Together Joy and Jay are the amazing team behind Jing Slingers, and authors of a fantastic new book Foods with Benefits.

Joy is literally glowing—we couldn’t believe she’s nearly 60! But she wasn’t always this way. She used to weight nearly 300 pounds, had high blood pressure and felt miserable. When an energetic healer found a tumor on one of her ovaries, she threw herself into holistic medicine. Now, she takes no meds, she feels amazing, has “a rockin’ libido” (and we all want one of those, right ladies?) and feels fitter and healthier than she was at 35.

Jay is a writer, speaker and yogi. He suffered with heart palpitations in his early 20s, but refused the prescription meds in favor of a holistic approach. He’s spent the last 15 years studying yoga, self-development and the power of tonic herbs. Working in Tonic bars all over the world, Jay has crafted over 50,000 custom elixirs to help his clients detoxify from the heavy burden our artificial world puts on our bodies.

Everyone is welcome at Joy and Jay’s table, whether you’re vegan, paleo, omnivore, vegetarian, gluten-free, and their recipes can be adapted to all needs. Their book, Food with Benefits, is packed with cleverly comforting foods that will elevate you and your health. And we can testify to them being absolutely divine (we tasted them and…. OMG!).

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • What to do to recharge your DNA.
  • The difference between tonic herbs and medicinal herbs.
  • How our artificial environment impacts our health.
  • How to grow money (really!)
  • A food you can grow in just ten days.
  • How to source herbs on a budget.
  • The healthiest coffee to drink.
  • Plus a really juicy beauty tip…

Paul Shapiro grew up loving animals—his dogs were like family to him. At 13, he saw a video about the way animals were treated, in farms, circuses, and labs. He was horrified. Thinking how much he cared about his own pets, he knew there was nothing he wouldn’t do to protect them from harm. From that moment, he became an animal rights activist.

Paul is now the vice president of Farm Animal Protection at the Humane Society, the world’s largest animal rights organization. He works with policy makers and food retailers to put compassion at the top of the agenda and obtain animal welfare reforms. He’s been a vegan for over 2 decades, but he doesn’t advocate a purist attitude towards meat-eating. In fact, Paul advocates being supportive of every person who is making any change towards a more plant-based diet. “We don’t want a social club, we want a social movement.”

Paul’s life mission is to reduce the suffering of animals, to prevent an end the massacre we’re inflicting on the animals we share the planet with. And he’s got some uplifting success stories to share with us, so tune in for a super inspiring and uplifting episode!

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • Paul’s first undercover investigation into egg-laying factories.
  • How Paul put veggie options on the menu in DC and Detroit.
  • How Paul turned a high school animal welfare club into a national organization.
  • What you can do to support the work of the Humane Society.
  • Why being a friendly ambassador for plant-based eating is more effective than trying to be exclusively vegan.
  • Paul’s thoughts on the ad-gag bills.
  • Why we’re seeing a shift from individual to institutional campaigning and why this spells good news for animals.
  • Some amazing meat-free success stories!
  • How lab-grown meat may put an end to factory farming.
  • The link between whales and kerosene, horses and cars, and how these relate to today’s meat industry.

It can be tough going vegan – you don’t know where to turn, what foods to eat, sometimes you just crave a hamburger. Today, it’s never been easier to embark on a plant-based journey. Tim Paige switched to a vegan diet 13 years ago for the animals, for health (and about 5% for the cool factor!). Now, he can’t imagine eating any other way.

Tim is a vegan entrepreneur, voice-over artist, and podcast superhero. After a short music career, he got into sales. But hated it. Working 15 hours a day, 7 days a week was not his idea of fun. He knew there was a better way to sell. He wanted to do something he was excited about. So he learned about online marketing, which led to voice-over work, and LeadPages. Tim believes you should only do what you’re really passionate about. That’s why his podcast, ConversionCast, will help you take your business to the next level.

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • A good vegan holiday destination.
  • The best vegan cheeses to try.
  • Why Tim is raising his children vegetarian.
  • Why short podcasts work better than long ones.
  • How to create a loyal audience.
  • Why being your authentic self is the best way to sell.
  • Why marketing is more than just sales.
  • How to make your podcast successful.
  • The perfect medium for introverts (this will surprise you!).
  • How to take your business to the next level with podcasts and webinars.
  • The best platforms for webinars.

Being pregnant and starting a family is one of the most beautiful experiences for a woman. But for an increasing number of couples, trying to conceive is an emotional roller coaster that ends in heartbreak. Diet, lifestyle, and environmental toxins are all responsible for our ever decreasing fertility. Enter today’s guest, Dr. Katherine Zagone, MD.

Dr. Zagone is a naturopathic doctor and founder of the Holistic Fertility Method. Her Fertility Formula approach covers everything from diet to emotions, as well as the environmental toxins we expose ourselves to unknowingly every day. Dr. Zagone combines the mind of a doctor, the heart of a healer and the strong feminine energy of a belly-dancer to guide her clients through a holistic journey that optimizes their health, so they can start creating the family of their dreams.

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • How epigenetics affect your baby’s health.
  • How to give your child the best start.
  • Why you should not watch the news.
  • Why stress can affect your baby before it’s even born.
  • Why natural births are good for your baby’s immune system.
  • What you can do if you’re struggling to conceive.
  • Why you need to remove plastics from your life.
  • The two biggest sources of BPA.
  • Why both parents have a role in play when it comes to boosting fertility.
  • One belly dancing move that will get you feeling sexy, happy and healthy.

Dr. Zagone’s Bio:

She considers each client’s individual needs as she surveys the whole landscape of your life when crafting the perfect fertility formula.

She empowers clients to create their healthiest lives to conceive and to create their healthiest child possible.

Her holistic approach provides a nurturing experience while addressing medical, functional, environmental, emotional, and energetic causes of infertility.

Food is a representation of how we treat ourselves and the world around us. It’s also such a big, integral part of our lives. We eat day in and day out, and are constantly making choices around it. No wonder food is often times a source of stress, worry and confusion in our lives, even after taking such a big step like going vegan. We go vegan and think, that’s it, we never have to worry again. Then we’re overwhelmed with all the truckloads of information reaching us daily.  We sit there and wonder “how can I improve my choices?” “how can I find balance between the foods I love to eat and making healthy ones?”. How many of us have had to deal with a close relative falling ill? For today’s guest Kim Sujovolsky, this was the story of her childhood. Her mother had the debilitating condition, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and the endless cycles of medications she was prescribed made matters even worse. Such a stressful childhood had two effects on Kim. She fell in love with cooking, as a way to care for her family. She also became an emotional overeater as a way to soothe herself, and developed chronic gastritis as a result.

Determined to heal herself and her relationship with food, Kim turned to veganism. And it changed her life completely. She realized that the choices she was making about what she put on her dinner-plate were more than just choices about food and health, they were also about the environment, the animals, and the world. Now she’s on a mission to spread that truth: we are not powerless.

Kim and her husband are a total dream-team. They combined her love of cooking and her expertise on emotional eating with his degree in holistic medicine and founded Brownble. MyBrownble is a safe space where you can find tips and resources to start healing, both emotionally and physically. You’ll also learn how to cook amazing vegan food. For Kim, when you tackle the food, the fear around veganism disappears (you can eat more than just kale and carrots, honest!). The program will help you stop dieting and start releasing the emotions that cause you to overeat, so you can be your best self.

Special Offer:

Kim’s got an amazing offer for Food Heals listeners! She’s reducing the membership to MyBrownble to the tiny price of $8.95/month for life, with the discount code FOODHEALS. But hurry, it’s open only to the first 25 people to subscribe!

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  • Why auto-immune diseases are becoming increasingly prevalent (and what you can do to help heal yourself).
  • Why emotional fear and negativity affect your entire body, especially your gut.
  • Why veganism can change the world.
  • What it’s like to be vegan in Madrid (you’ll be pleasantly surprised!).
  • The difference between grains in the US and Europe.
  • Why healing emotions will help you address your diet.
  • The best medicine (and it isn’t a pill).
  • Why the way you eat food is as important as the food you choose.
  • How to eat ice cream the happy way (yes, even Ben & Jerry’s!)
  • The ONE thing you need to do to begin the process of positive change.
  • Kim’s little happy Buddha trick.

Kim’s Bio:

The first thing you need to know about Kim is that she lives for cooking. She has been cooking – and I mean Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family kind of cooking- since she was 15 years old. She didn’t have what you would consider a traditional or normal childhood. Her mother, the biggest rockstar in her life, raised Kim on her own in spite of having a very serious and chronic illness since she was 11.  She had endless surgeries, one after another, was often bed ridden or in a wheelchair. In the best of times, she needed a cane or crutches to be able to slowly walk, in the worst of times, towards the end of her life, she had lost both of her legs. She was the most amazing and courageous person Kim has ever met, and living with her taught Kim two things, number one, health is everything in life. Let me say that again, HEALTH IS EVERYTHING in life, and two, a good plate of food shared together can do wonders for the soul. In a way, the love they both had for food completely brought them together and made them forget about the rough cards they were being dealt, which sadly seemed to be getting worse and worse every year.

Kim likes to call veganism her little rescuer. Not because it saved her from overeating, that came a bit later, but because slowly but surely, she was faced with having to be herself, with her true beliefs guiding the way, every time someone asked her why she wasn’t eating meat, dairy or eggs anymore. For the first time, she felt she didn’t care about what other people thought, or about being the perfect little girl who doesn’t cause trouble. It was the biggest confidence booster and it gave her so much joy to incorporate habits that were also helping other beings and taking the focus off of her instinct to eat everything in sight.

Now one question remained, would Kim finally be able to find balance and joy, give all her diet books away (she went on so many she lost count), maintain a healthy weight and still let the food loving cookie monster in her come out to play? The answer is yes, she has since found her way, she has found her balance, and she has learned so much about cooking and food that she have created this space, Brownble, for you. Life isn’t all or nothing, or about finding the magic pill, the magic behavior or about being perfect, it’s about finding a way of living that allows you to be your best self, and that includes cookies AND kale. Kim hopes you enjoy this journey into a balancing act of pure deliciousness and making your health and body shine from the inside out… in and out of the kitchen.

The Food Heals Podcast is hosted by Allison Melody and Suzy Hardy – two self-proclaimed natural chicks who will rock your world and change your beliefs about health! What is an indigo child? Highly sensitive, eager to follow their own path, fiercely determined to create positive change, these children come to earth with a sword in their hand. They are system rebels—environmental and social activists striving to make the world a better place.

And yet, their sensitive and independent nature often leads them to be labelled with ADD, Social Anxiety Disorder, Opposition Deficiency Disorder and other mental conditions, and put on meds. Could your child be an Indigo, Rainbow or Crystal child?

After witnessing her friend’s daughter being wrongly diagnosed with a mental illness at just 22 months old, Kristie was motivated to get this information out. Her documentary series The Children of the Rainbow gives parents, carers and educators the tools to help these children to follow their dreams.

Coming from a family of naturopaths, yoga teachers and crystal healers, it’s no wonder Kristie Reeves developed a highly sensitive and empathic nature. She combined her love of film production with her spiritual work to create media that really makes a difference. Her mission is to empower the next generation to stay true to themselves, follow their own path, and make the world a better place.

What you’ll discover:

  • The difference between Indigo, Rainbow and Crystal souls.
  • How to determine whether your child is a Rainbow or Crystal child.
  • Why meditation should be taught in schools.
  • How to find balance between discipline and allowing free creative expression.
  • How Kristie transitioned from dance to film production.
  • The first thing you can do if your child has been diagnosed with ADD.
  • How to help indigo children thrive, so they can change the world for the better.
  • A great game to help children recognize their own energy vs other people’s.
  • Why indigos are instinctively drawn to veganism.
  • Why epigenetics are the science of the future.
  • How to make a powerful healing potion using just 4 essential oils.
  • Plus: Suzie reveals her bad-ass past life!

Kristie Reeves’ Bio

Kristie Reeves is a producer, actress and what one would call an Indigo. Which means Kristie is a  highly sensitive, but also very determined. She was born in a very small town outside of Frankfurt, Germany and had the gift of growing up in a nature environment and a community where everybody pretty much knew everyone else. Sometimes living in a small town had its challenges, but at the same time Kristie believes it gave her the strong foundation that she have today. As a child, Kristie was on one hand very shy, on the other hand very rebellious and liked to follow her own inner voice when it came to making decisions. Which sometimes meant wearing winter stockings with a summer dress for Easter.

The same time being very sensitive meant not being able to deal with the BS of her peer group. Watching the news on television Kristie also saw what was happening in the world and at one time she decided to sing her favorite song “Ein bisschen Frieden” (meaning “A little peace”) every day hoping it would end all wars in the world.

When Kristie was in primary school she fell in love with classical ballet. The dance studio was Kristie home, her refuge from the sometimes a bit crazy world out there. As a teenager Kristie spent every free minute dancing, performing with her school’s company and after graduating High School went to the Royal Academy of Dance to study classical ballet.

Years laters Kristie ended up in the city of angels. A few years after that, during her six months stay in New York, her auntie (as she called her) shared an article about Indigos with her- and all of a sudden Kristie’s life made sense. We are currently looking at a world that faces environmental catastrophes, from global warming, to the pollution of our air and water and a large accumulation of trash. We look at the the war in the Middle East, the maltreatment of women’s rights and the lack of education possibilities in many parts of the world. We look at the lack of resources such as food and water in so many countries. GMO, corruption and violation of human rights.

At the same time there has been a movement in the recent past. Call them pioneers, visionaries, activists- or Indigos. They are here to inspire change for the better.

Kristie’s website is her journey (past, present and future), her stories, experiences and sometimes also opinions on how the world works- and how it could work a bit better.

When Vince Lia was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease ulcerative colitis ten years, doctors prescribed pill after pill. Nothing worked. But when he switched from his meat-heavy SAD diet to green juices and a vegan diet, everything changed. Having healed his body with food, Vince is on a mission to help others do the same. He combines fitness and veganism for a complete approach to health.

Vince turned his story into a thriving business—you may know him better as Healthy Vegan Guy but he’s now re-branded as Vince Lia. Make sure you check out his gorgeous new website and his line of vegan-inspired Fit from Food t-shirts. Grab yours and raise awareness of the healing power of whole plant-based foods!

If, like us, you can’t get enough of Vince, check out Episodes 2, 18 and 29!

Vince Lia’s  Bio

Growing up in an Italian family, Vince was surrounded by different types of cheeses, deli meats and desserts that he thought he could never live without. After being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2006 (an inflammation of the colon), Vince felt completely lost. The symptoms he experienced included abdominal cramps, bathroom urgencies, bloating and weight loss, just to name a few. For years he struggled to figure out what foods his body could tolerate, since everyone with colitis reacts differently.  He spent over 5 years trying different medications and avoiding all types of salads, fruits and vegetables. His meals consisted mainly of rice, meat and bread since these were considered to be safe foods that would not cause any additional inflammation and ulcers. However, while eating these types of foods, his symptoms proceeded to get worse. In response, his doctor continued to prescribe stronger medications.

After mostly unsuccessful diets and seeing little to no improvement, Vince decided to try something drastically different – something that many of his  friends and family thought would not work. Vince  slowly started incorporating organic green juices into his diet (juicing removed the fiber from the vegetables and allowed his body to quickly absorb nutrients). Vince was still concerned about how his body would respond to vegetables after avoiding them for so long; however, he noticed that juicing reduced some of my symptoms. Encouraged by the results from juicing, Vince continued to gradually introduce different vegetables and fruits. It is here that Vince began to experience substantial improvement.

It was during this time that Vince became more aware of the all the unhealthy vegan food options available to us. Vince could eat a diet of potato chips and Oreo cookies all day and call himself Vegan, but that wasn’t what Vince wanted to do.  Vince wanted to live a healthy vegan life, with minimal processed foods and create both healthy and delicious plant-based meals.  Vince also started learning what it truly meant to be vegan and the inhumane treatment of animals in not only our food, but our clothing, shoes, furniture, etc. Vince learned about how our decisions can impact other species and the environment. After learning all these things, Vince knew that becoming vegan was the right decision for him. That he could do what he felt was right and still make a great Italian meal, but with fresh vegetables and nut cheeses that can rival any classic dish.

Each of us has had a post break-up fling with Ben & Jerry’s to sooth their heartache. For Michael Tamez, this fling with fast food became a daily routine that left him weighing over 250 pounds and struggling with a host of health conditions like gum disease and obstructive sleep apnea. But the excess weight wasn’t the only thing he was holding on to. In fact, toxic emotions are as destructive to the body as toxic foods. After embarking on a holistic journey that connected mind, body and soul, Michael was able to release the dysfunctional patterns that had created his condition. He lost an incredible 105 pounds and reversed his life-threatening illnesses, without medication.

Michael’s book, Transformative Nutrition, is a must-read for anyone who wants to enter into a loving, thriving relationship with their body. In it, Michael shares his extraordinary journey to empower people to transform their life and start creating more of what they truly desire.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to overcome sleep apnea naturally.
  • How to start manifesting functional relationships.
  • Why identifying underlying emotions can heal physical imbalances.
  • The best nutritional approach for rebalancing health.
  • How releasing physical knots can release emotional blockages.
  • Why an inclusive approach is the best way of finding the right diet for you.
  • How to get your ego to cooperative with a new healthy lifestyle.
  • Why biocompatible dentists are a better option.
  • How to attract more of what you want in your life.

Michael Tamez’s Bio

Michael Tamez was morbidly obese, had severe obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and advanced gum disease. Not only did he lose 105 pounds (47kg) and reverse all of those lifestyle related health conditions, he also transformed the dysfunctional relationship he had with food, his lifestyle, and his true self. This 13 year health transformation experience was intensified when he lost five family members within eighteen months. Because of the tremendous impact of these losses, Michael was forced to have major mental, emotional, and spiritual breakthroughs in some the most difficult times of his life. After experiencing all of these life transforming deaths, he was highly inspired to write an empowering book about life.

In Michael’s debut book, Transformative Nutrition: The Ultimate Guide to Healthy and Balanced Living, he describes his influential health journey in detail. Having been on the other side of balance, Michael can relate very closely to what people deal with when it comes to weight related health imbalances. His unique and progressive approach is not just for people who want to lose weight or eat healthier; it is intended for anyone who wants to establish a functional, healthy relationship with their body, meanwhile impacting every area of their life. As a certified Integrative Health Coach and published wellness author, Michael’s mission is to inspire a permanent shift in the way people eat, think, feel, live and love.
